Rev. Dr. Joseph Wamutitu gave his life to Christ at an early age of 15 as a freshman in High School. He was initially involved with High School and college ministries and has worked for, among others, Kenya Students Christian Fellowship (KSCF), African Enterprise (Kenya) and Jesus Revival Crusaders (JEREC). He accepted the call to pastoral ministry in 1993 when he founded
Christian Missions Fellowship Churches in Kenya. After establishing this local church and a school,
CMF Excellent Education Center (K-8) and planting several other churches in Kenya he moved to the United States to further his theological studies. He graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Intercultural Studies in 2009 with a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies (International Development).
In the course of his study, Dr. Wamutitu stayed connected to the prevailing issues in Africa especially among the poor and the marginalized. During his summer trips to Kenya he became aware of the devastating effects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, especially among the poor. Some of the church members were dying and leaving their children orphaned and without any care. This came even closer home when some of the students of CMF Excellent Education Center lost both parents and had to withdraw from school. It became apparent that something needed to be done and somebody had to do it. Africa Hope Center was therefore birthed to provide holistic care and support to these orphans who had lost both parents to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Dr. Wamutitu's believes in holistic empowerment and is passionate about holistic ministry which makes the Gospel relevant, transformational and empowering. As a result he reaches out to the poor and needy. In 2002 he initiated a ministry to the Rendile tribe of Laisamis in Northern Kenya. Through the ministry of Christian Missions Fellowship we not only have a local church but have been providing adult literacy, feeding ministry, medical camps as they share the good news of Jesus Christ. One of the critical needs among the Rendile of Northern Kenya is clean water. We are therefore working towards digging a well and providing water, a very much needed necessity. He is married to his wife Antoninah and are blessed with four children (Esther, Betty, Sarah and JoelCaleb). They are currently based in Atlanta, GA where they are involved in support raising for Africa Hope Center and providing leadership to Bethesda Empowerment Center (BEC) in Marietta.
